The Buddha meaning "The Englightened One" or "The Awakened One" was born Siddarttha Gotama around the year 623 BCE in what is now Southern Nepal. His father was King Siddhodana; his mother was Queen Maya. At the baby prince's naming ceremony, Brahman priests had predicted he would either become a world leader or a great religious teacher.
